What AI is good for in schools

Office staff lose hours hunting “where do I publish report cards?” or “how do I bulk promote?” An in-product assistant grounded in Schoolyi documentation shortens that hunt. Drafting parent notice text or summarizing a workflow checklist saves typing - human staff still review and send.

What we do not claim

AI does not replace teachers, counselors, or principals. It does not autonomously change grades, fee balances, or attendance. It does not predict student outcomes for disciplinary action. If a feature sounds like science fiction, it is not on our roadmap without explicit human approval gates.

Data boundaries

By default, customer student PII is not used to train public foundation models. Prompts and responses stay within your tenant’s authorization context - the same roles that can view a record in the app govern what AI can reference. Admins can disable AI features entirely if policy requires.

Human review remains mandatory

Notices, fee communications, and report card narratives that families receive should be reviewed by staff before publish. AI suggestions are starting points. Exam results and legal letters stay human-owned workflows.

Governance for leadership

Set a school AI use policy: which roles may use Ask Schoolyi, whether classroom content may be pasted into prompts, and how to escalate questionable outputs. IT enables features after DPO review where required.

Relationship to MCP

MCP connects external AI clients with Schoolyi tools under authenticated user permissions - useful for IT pilots, not a bypass around audit. See the MCP page for server configuration and test harness details.

Roadmap transparency

New AI capabilities ship with release notes describing data handling changes. Schools opt in to pilots; production defaults stay conservative when regulations evolve.
