Calendar feeds (ICS)
Published exam schedules as an RFC 5545 calendar feed, so a family can subscribe in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook.
File or feed handoff
Once an exam schedule is published, it is available as a standards-compliant ICS feed. A parent or student subscribes once, and the papers appear in whatever calendar application they already use alongside everything else in their life.
This matters more than it sounds. The alternative is a PDF timetable that a family has to remember to check, which is exactly the kind of thing missed the week before an examination. A subscribed calendar surfaces the paper the evening before without anyone having to remember anything.
Only published papers appear. A schedule still in draft is not in the feed, so an early subscription does not leak a provisional timetable.
How it works
- The feed is generated per user from their own published exam papers, following RFC 5545.
- Draft and unpublished schedules are excluded, so the feed never carries a timetable the school has not released.
- Subscription is by URL, so any calendar client that supports internet calendars works without an app.
Who configures it
Nothing to configure. The feed is available to signed-in users for their own schedule once a schedule is published.
What it does not do
Worth reading before a procurement decision rather than after.
- This is a one-way feed, not calendar synchronisation. Schoolyi does not read a family’s calendar, and an event edited in Google Calendar does not change anything in Schoolyi.
- There is no Google Calendar or Outlook API integration. Subscription is by standard ICS URL.
- Exam schedules are the feed available today. Timetable and general calendar feeds are not.

Is this the same as syncing with Google Calendar?+
No, and the difference matters. This is a subscription feed: Schoolyi publishes, the calendar application reads. There is no write path back, and Schoolyi has no access to anything else in the calendar. If you need two-way sync through the Google Calendar API, that does not exist.
Can a parent subscribe for more than one child?+
The feed is per signed-in user and covers the schedules that user is entitled to see, so a guardian linked to several children sees them together rather than needing a subscription per child.
What happens if a paper is rescheduled?+
The feed reflects the published schedule, so a subscribed calendar picks the change up on its next refresh. Refresh frequency is decided by the calendar application, not by us, which is worth knowing if you reschedule at short notice — send a notice as well.
