The public school website runs on your own domain rather than a subdomain of ours. You add the DNS record at your registrar, Schoolyi verifies it, and the site serves from your domain.
Verification is a real DNS lookup rather than a checkbox, so a mistyped record is caught in settings instead of surfacing as a site that does not resolve for prospective families.
This matters for admissions more than it looks. A prospectus that sends families to a vendor-branded URL undercuts the impression the prospectus was built to make.
How it works
- Add the CNAME or A record shown in settings at your DNS provider.
- Schoolyi performs the DNS lookup and reports whether the record resolves as expected.
- Once verified, the school website serves on your domain.
Who configures it
Configured by a school administrator in the school website settings, plus one DNS record at your registrar.
What it does not do
Worth reading before a procurement decision rather than after.
- DNS propagation is outside anyone’s control. A newly added record can take time to resolve regardless of what either system reports.
- This applies to the public school website. The signed-in application is served on the deployment’s own hostname.

Do we need to move our DNS hosting?+
No. You add one record at whichever DNS provider you already use. Nothing else about your domain changes, and your existing mail records are untouched.
What if the verification fails?+
Settings reports what it found versus what it expected, which is usually enough to spot a typo or a record added to the wrong subdomain. If the record is right, propagation time is the usual explanation.
Can we use a subdomain instead of the root domain?+
Yes. A subdomain such as the one you might already use for admissions is often easier, because it avoids touching records at the apex of a domain that is also serving your main site and email.
