Term is the reporting unit in Schoolyi. A term has a number, a name, and a date range inside the academic year, and every downstream report resolves which term a mark belongs to by comparing the assessment date against those ranges. Nothing tags an assessment with a term explicitly, which is why a term whose dates are a week short quietly drops the last round of tests out of the report.

Two different views answer two different questions. Term comparison answers whether a class is improving in a subject over the year, by averaging published assessment percentages per subject per term. The report card answers what an individual child achieved in one term, and is the artefact families actually see.

Prerequisites

Terms created for the academic year, non-overlapping and inside the year, on the Terms tab of /academic-calendar
Assessments published, because draft assessments are excluded from every aggregate
Marks recorded with a status; only present marks with a value contribute to averages
A grading scale at /settings/grading-scale if the report card should show letters or a GPA

Handoff

Publishing hands the term over to families and to the notification system in one move. The readiness check tells you in advance how many students and how many linked guardians will be notified, which is a useful sanity check on guardian linking as well as on marking: a class of thirty with four parent recipients means the portal invites were never finished.

Limits

There is no automatic at-risk flag or intervention workflow; the trend chart is the diagnostic and the follow-up is human
Term comparison has no per-student series, so cohort trends and individual trends are read from different screens
Exam session grade cards are a separate artefact from term report cards and are published from the exam session, not from grades

Term comparison shows nothing even though marks exist. What is wrong?+

Either the year has no active terms, or the assessments fall outside every term date range, or they are still draft. Assessments are matched to a term by assessment date and only published ones are counted.

Is term comparison per student or per class?+

Per class. It returns the average percentage per subject per term across the class, plus an overall class average. For an individual child, use the report card or the class gradebook.

Why is publish blocked for a class report card?+

Publish readiness fails while any active student in the class has a subject with no mark. It lists the students and the missing subjects, and also tells you how many students and parents will be notified once you do publish.

Who can create terms?+

The same roles that manage academic calendar events. Terms must sit inside the academic year date range and must not overlap an existing active term, or the create is rejected.
